Finished Or Not Friday from Podunk Pretties

Hi quilty friends!  Progress is being made on the Twinkler quilt.  The quilting is fairly light with very little ruler work and a lot of free motion.  The quilt police might frown upon skipping the stitch in the ditch technique, but if they think it looks better, they can issue me a citation and move along.

I'll start quilting row four later this afternoon.   I've got a morning and early afternoon jam-packed with excitement.  More about that tomorrow.

The brown Bow-Tie blocks are also coming along but at a pretty slow pace.

Half of them finished and the ...

Twinkler Quilt Finishing Instructions ~ Jelly Roll Quilt from Podunk Pretties

Quilting the Twinkler quilt is underway at last!

Today I'm going to share how I set my blocks and some basic quilt information to help you recreate the quilt.

The first thing you need is a Jelly Roll or (42) 2.5 x 42 strips of fabric.  You can get by with 40" strips or a tad smaller because there's a little scrap leftover from 42".

I used a Lori Holt Flea Market Jelly Roll plus (2) fat quarters because there were only (40) strips in this roll.  The background fabric is solid white.  I did not do ...

Bow-Tie Blocks, Sorting Fabric and Quilting from Podunk Pretties

I did it!  100 more Bow Tie Blocks.  They aren't all orange but there is no repeat fabrics.  Woohoo!

Just 400 blocks left to make and squeeze into this bin. Back in my 20s, I managed to wriggle my size 10 bum into a size 8 jean—no stretchy fabric needed. So, I'm fairly confident I can tackle this challenge.  HA!

Last weekend, I loaded the Twinkler quilt onto the frame, and that's when the saga began. Basting the top edge turned into an epic three-hour battle of fixing one machine problem and causing another.  Shredded threads ...

A Week Of Quilting from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  This past week I was busier than a bee in a honeysuckle patch. Flitting about from one quilting project to another.  So, let's do a quick recap of a weeks worth of quilting, starting with a quilt finish.  Mr. Podunk's hunting/camping quilt.

Since there is nothing fancy or pretty about a flannel and jean quilt, I opted to use up some serger thread for the simple straight-line quilting.

Hunting deer is a fall and winter sport, so this quilt needs to be warm.  Wool batting would be ideal but I'm allergic to wool ...

All The Twinkler Blocks Are Finished from Podunk Pretties

Yippee!  All 42 Twinklers are finished! I'm itching to dive into quilting this one. I haven't quilted a quilt on the frame since the first week of July.  Throughout my quilting journey, the actual quilting has always been my least favorite part. Yet here I am, strangely thrilled to get stitching, it's an odd but pleasant twist!

In my hurry to finish these blocks, a couple of minor mistakes were made.

This was one time that I was glad to have a little scrap leftover from each jelly roll strip.  I'm mulling over the idea of ...

Design Wall Monday ~ Twinkler from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  The Twinkler quilt blocks now fill the design wall.  Twenty-two little shining stars.

I was hoping for this to be a quilt top by now.  Slow progress is better than no progress.  Maybe by next Monday the quilt top will be ready to quilt.  The prints are cut for the remaining 20 blocks, but the background fabric is being cut as I go. I think today I'll finish cutting the fabric for the rest of the quilt.  That seems to light a fire in my piecing process.

Trimming the flippy corner bonus HST's is first ...

Jumping From This To That from Podunk Pretties

Remember the baggies full of HST's created over my quilting lifetime?  It's time to add a few more to the baggies from my current Twinkler quilt.  Tackling them in small batches as they are produced is easier than doing them all at once after the quilt is finished.

The quilt will produce 336 bonus HST's!  I used my handy dandy homemade locking HST ruler. It makes the process so much quicker.  If you would like to make one of your own, I made a YT video a few years ago.

The HST's from this project are ...

Twinkle, Twinkle And More Twinklers from Podunk Pretties

A few more Twinkler blocks were finished in yesterdays sewing in my jammies session.  The morning session was cut short for a visit with family. We had a great time at our little pitch in dinner and catching up on the kids new adventures.

They are always up to something, and jaunting off to here and there.  I don't remember my life being so exciting when I was younger.  Well that's because it wasn't.  Being a housewife and raising kids is an adventure but it's just not quite the same as traveling and seeing the world ...
